Today has been rough.
First and foremost, I slept like crap - mostly because this silly little boo-boo on my toe was causing great strife. I'm a tummy sleeper, and when I'm on my tummy, my toes are against the bed as well. When I moved, the darn stitches would catch on the flannel sheet. One might ask why I don't wear a bandaid - easy solution right?! WRONG! I have problems with the adhesive on bandaids and get all itchy. MORE itchy than the crazy stitches themselves. Stitches that I think are too tight - because I can't put my foot down flat and stretch out my toe naturally - because it pulls on them WAY too much. Have I mentioned that HATE all things medical? I think the next 10 days are going to CRAWL past. And . . . I'm already stressing about removing the stitches.
Secondly, we were abruptly wakened by the phone ringing. Pretty much RIGHT at 7:00am. It was the Ass Monk. . . I mean principal from my younger children's school. Why you ask? Because he must think that the entire student body parents are idiots and are unable to figure out that it was a snowday all on our own (through the radio, computer, TV - like every other school in the province). I DO like how he identifies who he is . . . like we don't already know his voice from his self-righteous synrevoice messages (although I must give credit - he isn't using them NEARLY as much this year to spout off his own agenda at us - but I also have to admit that when the calls come through, I typically just pick it up so the system knows we answered and then hang up again. BUT . . . I must say, when he has the balls to call THAT early in the morning, I'm going to listen to what he has to say - because believe me . . . it better be freakin' important). The irony of these calls are that they come through and wake up the ENTIRE household, when in fact my kids could have slept in. Thanks for that asshole. Oops! Did I use my outloud voice right there? My bad!
Thirdly, it was a snow day. It is ALWAYS a nice thing to have my kids home on a sudden day off - in fact I embrace it, however, I already had 3 daycare kids coming for the day, and with the snow day, that meant that I'd have one more daycare kiddo, plus my own 2 little ones. Do the math there . . . that's 6 kids. Most of them under the age of 6. I'm not used to that anymore. Since the beginning of this academic year, the most I ever have in a day is 4 - and that is rare in itself (because everyone is part time or casual, save for one). Banshee was a bit grumpy (insert my shocked face here). A daycare kid was just busy (fun busy - but tiring at the same time). And another daycare kid was VERY grumpy. Did I mention that she was G-R-U-M-P-Y?! WOW. She didn't want ANY part of going outside. Heck, she didn't want any part of ANYTHING. When I even merely mentioned an activity, it sent her into a frenzied tantrum, resulting with her stomping on my foot. On my stitched up, sore toe. And of course kids fight. And bicker. And argue. And battle over toys. A LOT. Especially when they're all not used to being around each other all day anymore. I was accused of having 'stupid' crafts (because I deal with preschoolers every day, so I plan accordingly. And heck, what more can you do with a freakin' Groundhog craft?!); I was accused of being 'boring' (because they had to wait for nap time to bring out some 'smaller' piece toys/games); and I was accused of having 'yucky' food. And man oh man, did those kids EAT!! For someone who had yucky food, they basically ate me out of house and home. And for someone who was 'boring' - they all SPENT hours in the air bouncer that I dragged out and set up in my living room (oh yes - that's as about as crazy as it comes. I should also be given an award for that . . . it was stored in the storage room - in the dark recess of a corner notorious for harbouring mouse crap. I was TERRIFIED at what little critter was going to run out across the floor. Much to my delight - nothing did). Oh yeah - fantastic fun!!
Eventually Teen returned home (she'd been at a friends house overnight - she's still between semesters right now). That amplified Banshee's mood, because she torments her sister, just by existing. Then of course she started in immediately with the "I need"; "I want" thing. Admittedly, I just tuned her out. Easy enough, someone - maybe even 2 someones were having tantrums. I tried to call my other half (he insisted on taking the cellphone with him so I could reach him if I needed), but he neglected to turn it on. Good thing he took it and all, huh? I'm glad it wasn't a major emergency or anything.
Because of the snow day, all extra-curricular activities were cancelled. That made Banshee even MORE upset. She really wanted to go to the gym. Imp was almost inconsolable because he's been talking at his Zumba class ALL WEEK!! Poor guy. To add insult to injury, their older sister is going to the pool for open swim. I COULD have taken them, but I can't - enter silly toe/foot with stitches again. They have to have an adult in the water, and I can't do that until Friday. Although I DO admit, I WILL be having a shower tomorrow. Are you all glad to hear that?! I think my family is.
BUT . . . today is almost over. Tomorrow a new day. Here's hoping that tomorrow brings a few more rainbows and sunshine, right?
Right?!
